Canon EOS 1000D review

Canon EOS 1000D

Introduction EOS 1000D

A camera suitable for those who want to start, but also for those who want to make a leap in quality than a compact.
The Canon EOS 1000D was submitted after the 450D, with the intent to offer a more affordable cost of the SLR, but able to incorporate some of the major improvements from 2008 onwards judged essential, such as Live View or the system cleaning the sensor. The machine, in fact, may be considered a replacement for the EOS 400D, which which it shares some important parts, such as the sensor and the rear screen.

Ergonomics and functions
Externally, the car just looks smaller and lighter than the EOS 450D, with slightly rounded corners. Like other entry-level SLR, it’s still quite compact, with a comfortable grip for the right hand. It is built mostly of plastic, which helps to keep it light, but it looks solid. The controls at the top of the machine are similar to those of the 450D, through the main switch you can choose between auto mode, program (similar to car, but at least you can change the main settings), Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and manual.
Some secondary small buttons that are on the camera body can be confusing if you’re used to compact, but their usefulness to quickly reach certain functions (such as ISO sensitivity) without going through too many menus.
On the back of the machine, the main difference compared to the 450D can be seen in the 2.5 inch screen instead of a 3-inch: the resolution is the same, however, that is 230,000 pixels, which allows you to see with good quality.
Until 2007, the SLR allowed to frame the image just before shooting through the viewfinder, where you still see all the information about the shot, such as time, aperture or ISO sensitivity, and now also allows you to preview 1000D Taken also on the rear screen, as is done with a compact. This is called Live View mode and is activated via the SET button, even if it is not so straightforward to use as that of a compact.
The machine has a built-in flash, but with the top slide can add a supplementary flash: choice is a cumbersome, but if you often make photos at home, is a solution that allows you to make better pictures and to photograph far away, illuminating a wider scene.
Despite being the cheapest Canon SLR at the time of this writing, the 1000D can use any EF-mount lenses separated or EF-S. To know what the focus from traditional values, we must multiply the values by 1.6. Thus, a zoom lens 18-55mm, like the one supplied in the kit’s principal sales, is comparable to a 29-88 mm.

The fundamental resolution and zoom
The new Canon EOS 1000D digital SLR is characterized by the presence of a high quality image sensor, falling within the category of next-generation CMOS devices. This sensor provides the effective resolution of 10.1 megapixels compared to a total number of pixels, which reaches 10.5 million. The resulting image aspect ratio is 3:2. The size of the sensor instead of 22.2 x 14.8 mm it is. Regarding the Canon EOS 1000D digital SLR camera, you can not talk about the values of optical zoom or digital zoom, because the objectives are not fixed but interchangeable. The lens mount of this model is compatible with EF and EF-S types. EF is expected with a multiplication factor of 1.6 x. By virtue of the resolution mentioned, you can shoot images with a maximum size of 3888×2592 pixels.

Presentation: Design
Belonging to the series of so-called digital SLR cameras, 1000D is the latest exponent, in chronological order, the successful and high quality, EOS series, dedicated to those who already have a good experience in digital photography. The model comes in classic black, which characterizes the more professional SLR, and with a structure almost identical to previous models of the range. Massive and impressive, the Canon EOS 1000D weighs just 450 grams for the body: this must be added the contributions of lens, batteries, memory cards, external flash or other accessories. The size of the model to reach 126.1 mm width, 97.5 mm and 61.9 mm for the depth for the height. The body is rock solid and durable, constructed of stainless steel and plastic. The operating temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees.

Uses and Features
Controlled by a new generation DIGIC III processor, the device that responds to the name of SLR Canon EOS 1000D allows for manual focus in various ways. To make the shots offers both active-matrix LCD screen diagonal of 2.5 inch (230,000 pixel resolution), is a viewfinder camera with visual coverage of 95% and 0.81 x magnification The flash is integrated and reduces red-eye. The sensitivity is moving on a range of between 100 and 1600 ISO, and shutter speed has never been more variable: the minimum is 1 / 4000 second, up to 30 seconds. Exposure compensation is between +2 and -2 EV in 1 / 2 or 1 / 3 EV. Automatic or manual white balance while shooting the sequence has a speed of 3 fps. And ‘possible to install a type of external flash E-TTL II wireless multi-flash support.

After the shot: storage media, and print connections
After shooting is possible to donwload or transfer of images through the most classic of cable connections, access that represented high-speed USB 2.0. It ‘s also a video output PAL / NTSC for displaying photos taken. The lithium battery of type LP-E5 offers enviable autonomy: up to 500 shots at a constant operating temperature of 23 degrees. There is an internal memory, but it is possible to use an expansion slot for memory cards in Secure Digital or SDHC high capacity. Canon EOS 1000D supports Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.5 and Windows 2000, XP, Vista. In order to save consumption, the device can be programmed to auto shut-off after 30 seconds, or 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 minutes. Canon EOS Digital

2,5″ LCD screen
Lightest digital DSLR camera ever The Canon EOS 1000D features an image sensor that is said to be similar to that of the EOS 400D and also offers 10.1 Megapixels of resolution. The main differences with the 400D are Live View, DIGIC III, a 7-point AF instead of a 9-point AF, auto ISO setting, unlimited JPEG buffer but a lesser amount of RAW pictures, LP-E5 battery instead of the NB-2LH and on top of that a decreased weight of 502 grams which makes the Canon EOS 1000D Canon’s lightest digital SLR camera ever. The Canon 1000D is expected to become available worldwide in July of this year. As soon as we receive a full test sample we will publish a full Canon EOS 1000D review.
Canon 1000D Memory

32GB of flash storage capacityKnowing that the Canon EOS 450D bid farewell to the CompactFlash memory card, it is hardly a surprise to see that the Canon EOS 1000D is also supporting the small memory card. CompactFlash seems to be dedicated solely to the professional EOS cameras, although most of them feature a dual card slot for supporting the SD format as well as the CF format. Thanks to the support of the SD format, the Canon EOS 1000D has 32GB of storage capacity at its disposal that is if the current maximum storage capacity of SDHC is actually supported, which I presume it is. Secure Digital and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) have clearly become a world standard.

EF lens mount

The bayonet-style lens EF is at the heart of the EOS system. Breaking compatibility with the previous FD mount, was designed without mechanical connections between the moving parts and the camera lens. The opening and focus are controlled via electrical contacts, with engines at the same goal. This was somewhat similar to the previous attempt to Canon T80 with AF and the Nikon 1983 F3AF (and Nikon autofocus lenses for many of the most recent), and other manufacturers including Contax (with its G-series interchangeable lenses 35 mm rangefinder cameras) and Olympus (with its Four Thirds system) have embraced this kind of system of direct transmission. This is a great lens mount than most of its competition, enabling the use of larger aperture lenses.

EOS flash system

The EOS flash system has gone through in a series of developments since its first implementation. The base of the EOS system flash was not really developed for the first EOS camera, but rather for the latest high-end FD-mount manual focus camera, the T90, which was launched in 1986. This was the first Canon camera with through-the-lens (TTL) flash metering, even if other brands were measuring in this way for some time. He also introduced the A-TTL (Advanced TTL) system for improved flash exposure mode programming, preflashes using infrared to measure distance to the subject.

This system was first reported in EOS cameras wholesale. A-TTL largely fell into disgrace and was replaced by E-TTL (Evaluative TTL). This used a pre-flash for advanced measurement, and the autofocus system used to judge where the main subject was more accurate exposure. E-TTL II, which was an improvement in the firmware of the camera only, replaced by the E-TTL 2004.

Canon Speedlite flashes brand-evolved alongside the cameras. They are capable of wired and wireless multi-flash configurations, the second the use of visible or infrared pulses to synchronize.
